Gum disease is a very common condition where the gums become swollen, sore and bleeding. At this stage it is called gingivitis and is fully reversible with good oral hygiene. If left untreated gingivitis will develop into periodontitis which affects the tissues that support the teeth (bone, root and ligaments). In advanced stages periodontitis presents with bleeding gums, loose teeth, bad breath, soreness and in some cases teeth can spontaneously fall out.
At the Family Dental Clinic we have a competent team to help with gum disease. Our two hygienists and dental therapist have many years of experience between them and the lead clinician, following extensive training formed part of a team of Dentists with Special Interest in Periodontology, delivering care in one of five referral clinics in West Sussex.
