Endodontic treatments, such as root canal treatment, are often recommended when deep decay, trauma, tooth cracks, and gum disease affect the integrity of the pulp. The symptoms of pulp damage include: pain, increased sensitivity to extreme temperatures, discolouration and tenderness or swelling around the tooth. Occasionally there are no obvious symptoms associated with a “dead tooth”, but in most cases patients are very aware something is wrong.
There are only two ways to treat an infected tooth, either take the tooth out or root treat it. In most cases it is cheaper to do root canal treatment than to replace a missing tooth.
We have to burst the urban myth about painful and prolonged endodontic treatment. Nowadays with highly effective local anaesthetics and modern techniques root canal treatment is only slightly more involved, than placement of a large filling; and often can be completed in one session.
We use modern endodontic equipment in conjunction with tried and tested skills, which are constantly improved through training and investment, and with thousands of successful treatments behind us we are confident, teeth can be saved and function for many years.
