Teeth Whitening

Veneers
In some cases teeth whitening on its own is not enough to achieve a good aesthetic result; a little more intervention and removal of the outer part of the tooth is required to make space for a veneer.
Veneers are made of a thin layer of porcelain to improve the appearance of individual or multiple teeth. They are affixed to the outside of the tooth in order to mask any imperfections such as crookedness, discolouration, large and ugly fillings. Veneers are less invasive than crowns and sometimes can be done with minimal preparation of the tooth.
Crowns & Inlays/Onlays
Badly damaged, worn or broken teeth need to be crowned to preserve them and to restore their appearance and function. A dental crown is a custom made cover that is placed over a natural tooth which has been reduced in size. Crowns are made from a variety of materials: precious metals such as gold, metal and porcelain (white) or exclusively porcelain (white). The choice depends on the clinical situation and the patient’s wishes. We are always happy to discuss individual needs.
Inlays and Onlays are similar to crowns; but less tooth is removed and the restoration is affixed inside/on top of the tooth.
White fillings
Amalgam fillings are slowly becoming obsolete. Some Scandinavian Countries banned their use over a decade ago: in Britain since the summer of 2018 they are no longer allowed to be used in children and pregnant women. There are safe and better alternatives to amalgam on the market.
Many patients ask if their filling will be white; we can reassure you, we use exclusively white filling material at the practice. We are also great supporters of the MID philosophy (Minimally Invasive Dentistry), where as much as possible of the tooth structure is preserved and the part missing, replaced with a modern white filling material.
